The Year of Do: It Starts Right Now

What will you commit to doing this year?

Doers,

2018 is here and it’s our most important year yet. 2017 was all about celebrating those who do. Launching our “In Doers We Trust” campaign was our undertaking to put doers in the center – to celebrate and rally the risk-takers, the creators and the non-traditionalists. But, as we were thinking about our own New Year’s resolutions for this year, we lamented that these statements are often quickly ignored and become empty promises gone unfulfilled. So, we decided that this year needs to be about actually doing more and not about just promising ourselves more. I’m talking about actually making a commitment. A commitment to your passion. A commitment to yourself. A commitment that can’t be swept aside or saved for another day. This commitment is a lifestyle. A daily goal to grab every opportunity and take every chance to do more. So, in that spirit, we’re claiming 2018 as The Year of Do.

What have you done today? Have you accomplished what you set out to?

The Year of Do is about championing the entrepreneur in us all, and enabling our global community to do more. I always tell the Fiverr team to avoid “death by committee.” It’s the brainstorms that dead end. The 15-person collaborative document that goes nowhere and benefits no one. We’ve all been there, and there’s no reason for it. If you see a problem and have access to a quick solution, push it through. The path of least resistance isn’t always the prettiest, but when time and money are your biggest enemies, executing on ideas quickly is your fastest route to learning and growth. Challenge yourself to push through. Through failure and hesitation. You may produce something that doesn’t work right away, but that doesn’t matter. What you’ve created is a foundation for finding something that will work, and every action you take will get you closer and closer to that success.

The commitment to do more doesn’t start and stop with you. It’s also our commitment to you. To do more for you. To lower the barrier for you to find success. To provide more tools, services, and resources that push you forward. We would be nothing without your creativity, drive, and ingenuity, and this year we’ll be doing more to enhance your experience and access to all things Fiverr, on and offline.

So, what will you accomplish in The Year of Do? Tell us what you’re committed to do, and we’ll work to help make it a reality. How? Why don’t you see for yourself. Check out our Year of Do challenge, make your commitment, and let’s get sh#t done. I’ll be cheering you on.

In Doers We Trust,

Micha

If you want us to do more. YOU DO MORE for us sellers. How come i work my ass off for that miserable $30 dollars, and someone decides he wants to do a chargeback, and you just STEAL our money, to pay your debt to Paypal? Start thinking in sellers, who in fact, are the ones running your business, instead of the money you like to steal from clients AND sellers.

Marjia

I agree with you, Jon, chargeback is just a pissed off thing we don’t want anymore.

Rudy

Wow, I’m a buyer with almost 1000 gigs purchased and never realised how badly Fiverr treated the sellers who do the work. I’m actually quite disgusted reading these pleas for help for fiverr to start pulling their weight. Jon what you are asking for sounds perfectly reasonable considering they charge a 20% fee to both buyer and seller, effectively getting almost half of every dollar earned. There’s plenty of meat there to pay for fees for the occasional problem. That’s what profit pays for – wages and expenses and fees. So in the year of DO, Fiverr really needs to… Read more »

$30? you are rich I can barely get $12 (- paypal fees) from the “15” I should get

Matt Jensen

Hi Jon. We know chargebacks can frustrating. They are unfortunately out of our control if buyer disputes the payment with their payment provider not Fiverr. As a seller, you are welcome and encouraged to let us know so that we can look into the order. We cannot guarantee that you will get the funds back since each order is different and we need to review each before any actions could be taken.

Jon
Guest

I know you can’t do nothing about it because that’s on Paypal’s hands. What you CAN do is pay from your OWN pockets and not steal our well, hard and honest earned money. We sellers need, at least, the security that our hard work will be compensated besides what a buyer can or can’t do to scam us. Learn from Paypal. If a client is scamed, they return him his money. If we sellers are scamed, we totally SHOULD keep our money.

Safety and security at work, that’s all we want.

Jon
Guest

Oh, and i forgot to say that is not a favor you do to us working on Fiverr. We PAY you to work (even though that payment does not guarantee we will earn nothing) in this web. That percentage you take from sellers and buyers should grant security on both sides.

Matt Jensen
Editor

Just as we want you to commit to “doing” in 2018, we are also committed to finding and correcting pain points in the selling process. Thank you for your feedback about chargeback.

Nathan

Hello Matt,

I have to be honest and say I agree with Jon. Since we the sellers are following Fiverrs policies, restrictions, and terms of service, the risk when it comes to the chargebacks should be on Fiverr. I realize too that you can’t control dishonest buyers but as a corporation you can take some accountability and eat the cost since we as buyers have already done the work, and put our trust in your platform.

The worst part is that when buyers do charge back from paypal, the order will be automatically canceled and will affect the order completed, these people still go on penalizing sellers and either the account is blocked or demoted. FIVERR IS SUCK!

chris

how about not stealing $1 for EVERY $5 we make ($100 turns into $74 after you and paypal are done with us)

I don’t see a guaranteed future with you guys at Fiverr. You don’t care those that matters (Seller) but rather concentrate on buyers thereby creating an Avenue for scammers to rip us off.
You always have time post but couldn’t protect your business backbone. There are a few websites that were successful before Fiverr came. They are lost their ranks due to the negligence you fiverr CEO and admins express towards seller.

Time will tell.

Ed Lee

What I’m going to do is hammer you guys for not valuing your workforce. Your CS people violate the Terms of Service constantly by allowing cancellations against terms and then penalizing Sellers. Your cancellation policy is the worst—penalizing Sellers who refuse to work for free. It’s getting worse because the scammers and Bottom Feeders are catching on. I hope you are getting the drift from some of these comments. I belong to several Seller Groups on facebook and this is the bulk of conversations. If you ever hope to attract more professionals to this platform you are going to have… Read more »

I too have had problems with having to cancel to illegal and/or unethical content that puts both my freedom and reputation on the line if I were to complete these orders. We, sellers, should NOT be penalized for having high ideals.

The “Year of Do” campaign is about championing the entrepreneur in us all and finding those tasks, skills and ideas that we’ve all been putting off and committing to do them. It’s not just “doing more Gigs”. It’s about personal enrichment and the entrepreneurial spirit.

Kathy
Guest

Well, my comment is about these new “Seller Standards”? We’re entrepreneur’s but I feel like I’m working for “The Man” in regards to all the rules and regulations imposed on us. AND if we fall slightly below Fiverr expectations we are penalized for 60 days! That’s kind of harsh! We might be having some personal problems, illness, equipment failures and we…well we just might have had a bad month…a bump in the road, but we are spanked hard by being demoted a level and can’t make it up for 2 months. Ouch!

Alfredo

This year you have to find a way to stop punishing sellers because of scammers and malicious buyers. It is not fair that us sellers lose in one way or another due to the irresponsibility of the buyers.

Buyers record should not be a mystery to sellers. Their way of acting must be evident through their profile. To maintain the balance in the terms with the clients and the sellers is the responsibility of fiverr, to deliver a quality service is ours.

Matt Jensen
Editor

It can be frustrating when you come across a buyer who is not committed to the relationship. We are always taking steps to improve the marketplace experience. Please always report these failed transactions to our support team so that we can better prevent these types of malicious buyers in the future.

I do second @Jon and Ajayi Ayokunle, Fiverr customer support totaly doesnt care for SELLERS, they are always inclined towards buyers, recently one buyer gave one star rating, buyer didnt read gig’s description and want modification when asked to pay they gave one star bad review Took this matter to CS to remove that bad feedback, they simply replied that they value Buyers feedback and contact buyer to change feedback, they didnt checked the conversation between seller and buyer, I am sure that there are some dumb ass morons sitting in CS Now you want sellers to DO MORE? bad… Read more »

CORRECTION

One more important thing to be noted, some fu**ing BUYERS dont give reviews and order get completed automatically, Imagine you delivered 20 orders but only 5 feedback/reviews and rest get completed after 3 days, this means your gig is only showing 5 orders completed, should the sellers beg for reviews? cant fiverr show number of completed orders?

Hope CEO see this and make some changes

Eniola
Guest

I have same experience too. A buyer gave me a 1 star review just because he did not read gig description, not because I did not deliver quality. I contacted Fiverr CS but they refused to remove the review. I am highly disappointed in Fiverr.

You need to do more for the seller by changing your non-sense policy. Fiverr CS must do the right thing and save seller from getting discouraged!

chris
Guest

and that review will stick with you FOREVER, there is no appeal or expiration of low reviews

Matt Jensen

Support does indeed care for both sellers and buyers. Every transaction with every buyer is different. Clear communication is required in order to make sure that both parties expectation are met when the Gig is complete. Thank you also for your feedback on the competed order stats.

In ideology, I’m down with it; the “Do” thing. Do more. Make more. Makes sense. Sharing my truth: working with buyers who have a bad attitude as soon as they hire you isn’t always easy to overcome; win them over. Especially, when you’re a trauma survivor. People *think* they understand PTSD because they’ve heard of it. Which isn’t the same thing as living with it. Some buyers start out negatively which is like being retraumatized, which isn’t cool. Honestly, I’d like to become a Top Seller. Being super sensitive to buyers needs, more often than not, I’ve gone above and… Read more »

Indeed, fiverr has been a great help to all of us as a seller, but the aspect of sellers protection should be taken care of. Attention Please, I have noticed two things with Fiverr which i will love to point out here for every one to reason along. The first issue is that of the “Available now Icon” Every seller should have this feature i guess, it is rather not fair to see it in some accounts and not in Others. Moreover, what on what basis do some account have this Icon? in preference to Others. Secondly, i noticed that the green Online icon that appears on the sellers gigs during a search is no longer showing. For example if i search “branding”, sellers in… Read more »

Available Now is a new feature that we’re in the process of growing as more sellers become interested in being “available now.” If you have an interest, please contact support, and they can help. As for “online”, we try to be as accurate as possible, but if a seller is logged into their account, but away from their computer we can not control that they are not actually online. We’re always testing new ways to connect buyers and sellers. Thanks for your feedback!

AVOguy

Agreed. They should Ops-Test new features harder before deploying them to the Production Environment. I never saw, and still don’t see the “Available Now” option. The “Online” filter for search results is completely broken.

Don’t get me wrong Fiverr. I love the opportunity you provide but, in my case, you provide the lions share of my income and I can’t risk a significant loss of income. So If I can’t trust the stability of my biggest earning platform I will have to focus my efforts elsewhere.

Fiverr is an amazing collection of doers and need Doers who work together to provide and receive outsourced one of services
All this could be raised to a different level if groups of Doers joined together in Fiverr mini groups to offer one stop shops of design content research and more to the market
A powerful group of professionals who can brand themselves and thereby increase individual selling clout
Fiverr can provide the platform for loose associations
We will do the rest

I am a buyer also. Fiverr is a great place to get things done if you find the right seller to provide it. I have had both good and bad experiences on Fiverr. However, the good far outweighs the bad. If a seller does a good job for me I usually reward them for it. However, if a seller does a bad job then I may cancel or give him/her a chance to correct the problem. It is all about using a bit of wisdom and being respectful towards one another. Thank you.

I really don’t agree with Fiverr taking 20% of our tips. That is what we, as sellers, made through our work. Fiverr really did nothing to deserve that. Also, buyers should be forced to leave feedback. I am frankly tired of buyers promising to leave feedback and then not delivering. They are already getting very cheap voice over. How long does it take to mark the star rating, especially when sellers are judged on the amount of reviews they have?

Thank you.

1 I would like to see far more statistics published by Fiverr. I want to know how the market is going and whether my current trends are similar or different from the changing market. Such statistics should be analyzed every way. Analyze by country, by size, by type of gig, by total dollars and total numbers. 2 Allegedly checks all Buyer Requests but some awful nonsense gets through. This needs to stop. 3 I think it would be good if students wanting help with their courses or homework had their requests highlighted so I can ignore them 4 Buyer requests… Read more »

I’ve had both good and bad experiences with Fiverr, but mostly good. I’ve only been a buyer. But last Fall I stopped using Fiverr for a lot of projects simply because of the cost of doing business. On top of the Fiverr fees – one of which is the fee to tip people, I am now looking for a place where I don’t get nailed by the exchange rate. I live in Canada and the US exchange rate is a killer. If Fiverr wants my money in 2018, better reduce my overall costs of using the site.

I never complained since 2013 I’ve been with fiverr, but this time you deserve a complaint. Not a huge deal, but I agree. When one of my Buyer’s tips me because I exceeded their expectations, why does Fiverr take a piece? They didn’t put extra time and effort into the Deliverable. They didn’t communicate with my client to ensure all the i’s were dotted and t’s crossed.

Why do they get 20% of a Tip that was *for great product and service*. That’s all me, baby!

I want to love Fiverr. But communication with designers is just too difficult. Simple tasks become huge. I don’t have the answer, except that designers should repeat back the instructions in their own words, and get sign off from the client. Now THAT would make me very happy. Like a diehard sports fan, I was once a Fiverr advocate. I loved everything about the platform. I still remember the time when it wasn’t about the money.
