I hadn’t heard of Fiverr until my brother told me to check it out. He’d had a few logos and a book cover designed and thought I might be able to do something with my music. It’s been such a success that now he keeps reminding me, “Hey, you wouldn’t be on Fiverr if it wasn’t for me.” The first idea I had was to create custom drum loops—that’s where my Fiverr handle comes from—but this didn’t really sell. I thought there would be a market for it because it was something I would buy. Then I decided just to create something that I thought was fun and that I enjoyed doing. I started selling my custom songs with ukulele and full-band, and suddenly people bought them, loved them, and came back for more. I became a Level 1 Seller after 30 days, a Level 2 Seller after 60 days, and a Top Rated Seller after 90 days.
It’s great that you can find things on Fiverr that would be hard to find elsewhere. For the jingles I sell, for example, you’d probably have to go through a professional studio and pay thousands of dollars. It’s the same for me with graphic design. With Fiverr, I can find everything I need in one place and save a lot of money. I recently bought marketing materials for our new gym. It’s exciting knowing that the sign on the building and the wall graphics, some over eight feet long, all came from Fiverr! I've also gotten some characters designed to use for promotional materials.
Fiverr is about matching what you like doing with what people are looking for. It has to go both ways. But the real key to success is to stay on Fiverr. If I’d given up after my first Gig, I wouldn’t be where I am now. My advice is to stick with it because if you have something to offer, and everyone does, then you’re going to succeed. It’s also important to offer great value. I want my buyers to say “Whoa, this is worth way more than I paid for it.” After that they’ll come back and trust me on my upsells. In fact, around 40% of my business is from repeat buyers.
Before Fiverr, I was working in a 9-to-5 job that just wasn’t for me. But in just a little more than two years, I moved across the country from Boston to California, became my own full time boss, got married, adopted a dog, and watched my Fiverr business grow. Now I get to work alongside my wife every day because we both control our work schedules. I've truly been able to shape my life the way I want, primarily because of Fiverr. The Gig economy truly gives anyone a chance to succeed regardless of their talents and passions. You see so many great stories featured on Fiverr. People put down payments on houses and pay off debts and travel around the world. Not only that, there are the intangibles. I can't put a price on how lucky I am to work with my wife and hang out with my dog every day! Without Fiverr and the Gig economy that wouldn't be possible.
