Stacy, aka Stcylace on Fiverr, turned her passion for helping friends with their dating profiles into not only a successful relationship for herself, but a successful business, too. Since joining Fiverr in October of 2015 she’s been able to travel around the world with her fiancée while working on her own terms. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, here’s Stacy’s Fiverr doer story.
Tell us a little about yourself. Who you are, where you’re from, what you do on Fiverr
Hello! I’m Stacy and I’m working as a digital online dating coach on Fiverr. Although I’m originally from San Diego, California, I’ve been traveling the world for the past couple of years. Creative writing has been in my blood since I was a child and I have written a couple of books to date, but nothing compares to the thrill of helping someone improve their chances of dating success!
I’m offering a handful of services at the moment, out of which my most popular are online dating profile feedback/review, profile creation, and photo selection. I create profiles for a wide variety of sites, including (but definitely not limited to) OkCupid, Match.com, eHarmony, and Plenty of Fish. I also offer a gig for writing customized opening messages as a way to help people connect with their digital crushes.
How did you get into helping people with their dating profiles?
Back when I was single, I was so curious about the subtleties of dating and I was always asking my friends to show me their online dating profiles. Since writing had always been one of my strengths, I started out by doing some simple rewrites, and I realized quickly that I was actually pretty good at turning things around for them!
I soon began fantasizing about how cool it would be to do this for a living. It just felt like it was something that I was supposed to do. But, there weren’t a whole lot of job openings for online dating coaches and profile writers, so I figured this was a project I would have to go after on my own! And, in case you are wondering, I did happen to meet my fiancée with the help of my own online dating profile! I have full confidence in the process and I know that it can work.
How did you hear about Fiverr? What inspired you to create your Gig?
I was actually just clicking around and googling ideas on how to work from home. I stumbled upon Fiverr pretty quickly and opened an account right away. To be honest, I wasn’t very hopeful that much would come out of this (since I had already tried other freelance sites in the past), but boy was I wrong!
How have your skills grown since joining Fiverr?
On top of improving my ability to work more efficiently, I’ve also learned how to accurately reflect my personality through the use of text alone. This is an extremely important skill when it comes to maintaining good digital relationships (business-wise AND dating-wise).
Can you share some of the favorite projects you’ve worked on?
This is a tough question, as I have enjoyed almost every project that I’ve worked on! For me, if a client is open, vulnerable, and excited for the ride, it’s going to be a fun and successful experience for both of us. But I do have to say that whenever I get one of those “success story” messages in my inbox, that particular project automatically becomes my favorite for the week!
What advice would you give to a newcomer on Fiverr looking to achieve success?
Be friendly! I mean… *really* friendly. Talk to your clients as if you were talking to a good friend. Listen to their needs. Ask questions. Make sure you both understand each other before getting started. Make sure that they are happy with everything, and be there for them if they need adjustments. And lastly, don’t be afraid of the occasional exclamation mark and smiley face! Coincidentally, I give similar advice in regards to sending online dating messages. 🙂
What impact has Fiverr had on your life? Has it changed the way you think about your profession or career?
Fiverr has completely picked me up at a time when I really needed a pick up. A couple of years ago, I met my current fiancée (who is a German citizen) in Spain. I quickly learned that he was studying international business, which meant that he soon would be spending time in Hong Kong, Germany, and the Netherlands. Well naturally I went with him… everywhere! Together we ended up visiting and living in ten different countries in the span of just two years.
Although I was unable to find steady employment due to all of the traveling, I was able to become financially stable within just six months of starting my account with Fiverr! I was also able to avoid the dreaded long-distance relationship while exploring places I never thought I would be able to see. And, this was all while doing a job that I actually love! I actually have a mobile career now, which was always a dream of mine. Thanks Fiverr!!
