Have you seen this image that recently went viral? Perhaps you’ve seen something similar with a different crop or with words added. You may even have this as your profile picture on Facebook right now.
Of course it is none other than Steve Jobs, co-founder and former CEO of Apple who sadly passed away early this morning after a long battle with cancer. Steve Jobs’ silhouette is cleverly depicted in replacement of the ‘missing piece’ of Apple in the iconic logo.
So what’s the story behind this simple, but brilliant design?
Well it just so happens that we have a Fiverr user in our midst who knows the creator personally. Cappuccino and spaghetti artist Madmoo was able to give us a small insight into Jonathan Mak’s design.
Madmoo tells us that surprisingly the logo wasn’t made in tribute to Steve Jobs passing away, but in fact to signify the stepping-down of the CEO last August. It was to show, in his own words “a piece missing from the Apple”. Further research leads us to Jonmak’s Tumblr blog where it was first posted on August 26th 2011.
Amongst all of the messages, interviews and job offers (yes, Mr Mak even had offers of real work!) Madmoo was able to ask if he felt overwhelmed by all of the attention, and his reply was just as simple as the design – “You have no idea”.
