The results are out – independence day special!

Independence Day is here again! It’s the time of year we get the BBQ out and watch the fireworks, but in the back of our minds many of us will be thinking… just how independent are we? Well, we’re not alone; millions of workers around the world are looking for additional income, freedom and fun by trying different career options and starting their own businesses. They are looking for true financial independence.

Since the start of the recession we’ve been worried about the state of our finances, career and well-being. The labor market is changing and young educated professionals find themselves looking for different ways to make money. People have turned to using their talents, passions, interests and skills to create additional income. As we’ve seen on Fiverr, anything goes, and money really does add up, $5 at a time.

We wanted to take a closer look at our community, what motivated them to start a business on Fiverr and how close are they to financial freedom. So, in the spirit of Independence Day we conducted the ultimate “Road to Job Independence” survey. The results are in and we’ve compiled them in an awesome infographic.
The conclusion? Well, a vast majority (86%) of our sellers seek job independence, and 1 in 5 report their goal with Fiverr is to quit their jobs and work for themselves. Financial freedom is a high motivator, but we see several other aspects come into the picture. More than 80% are frustrated with their traditional 9-to-5 job. It is more the lack of freedom traditional jobs offer than the need for more money that frustrates them (56% vs. 44%). Whatever the reason is, they are all using Fiverr as a way to get financial freedom.

1 in 4 sellers say they aren’t interested in their current job. These frustrations are motivating them to turn to alternative methods of making money – like Fiverr.
So, why do people sell Gigs on Fiver? Well… money is the primary motivation for 72% of micro-entrepreneurs that sell on Fiverr. 40% started their business to have fun while making money, and 32% wanted to gain more professional experience. 42% of sellers offer skills they use for their full-time job, and 35% want to make money from a hobby. Approximately 1 in 3 micro-entrepreneurs on Fiverr said they saw what other people were doing and thought they could too.

While the economy still struggles to recover, you can start your journey towards financial independence this Independence Day with Fiverr.
