The Olympics Come to a Rocking End

With the Summer Olympics now officially over, we can finally turn off the TV, get up from the couch and look back at the past few weeks.

36 sports, 17 days of jam-packed action, 2 awesome ceremonies, 10,960 of the most impressive athletes in the world uniting together… What more could we have asked for?

In this blog we saw some awesome Gigs coming from The Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. For our final post of the series we’ll be having a closing ceremony of our own! Fellow sports freaks, put your hands together as we present (cue the fireworks) 5 awesome Gigs from Oceania.

Europe – Home of the 2012 Olympics

What is synchronized diving if not performing one second of gymnastics while jumping in a swimming pool, together with your best friend? And who knew there were so many things you could throw? I’m looking at you, hammer throw, discus, shot put and javelin. The Olympics continue to amaze fans of all things sport around the world. Still though, it’s amazing to see all these young, bright athletes live out what they only dared to dream as a child.

Whether it’s lycra-clad cyclists, whizzing around the velodrome faster than the speed of light, young gymnasts executing perfected routines, or teary swimmers raising a wet arm in victor after touching the wall, the Olympics are full of moments to melt even the most cynical of hearts.

It’s An Olympic Fant-Asia!

If you’ve been glued to the TV all weekend it’s probably because you, like millions of others, can’t get enough of the Olympic madness. The best sportsmen and women from around the world continue to flex, run, swim, slam and twirl their way to gold.

While we love the popular sports, it’s the lesser known ones that really gets us excited. When did you last get to watch a modern pentathlon, fencing and badminton all on the same day?

How does a sport get selected for the Olympics? We think @Beerhaze got it right when he explained in a tweet, “anything a drunken guy in the pub can beat you at is not a sport, which is why darts and plate licking is not in the Olympics”.

Tennis is definitely a fan favorite! We saw Serena Williams breeze her way to an Olympic gold and Bolt sprint to first place like it was a stroll in the park. Speaking of gold, our hats off to Michael Phelps. He has done himself and America proud and can hold his head up high… unless, of course, the weight of his 18 medals puts too much strain on his neck.

All that aside, we’ll make like the Olympic archers and get straight to the point.
Another blog post, another Olympic ring – this time we’re looking at some fantastic Giggers from the region of… ASIA.

1) Been there, done that, Got the shirt (Sri Lanka)

As the famous saying goes, “You haven’t made a statement until you’ve worn it on a shirt”. What… there’s no such quote? Well there should be, and to help, Fezzan will help create an awesome customized Olympic shirt design.

2) It’s all in the design (India)

The Olympics aren’t over yet. There is still time to get Vivekg1978 to create a personalized Olympic design or banner for your website. Create incredible Olympic-inspired campaigns for your business.

3) Cartoon Cuteness (Hong Kong)

What’s up doc? The perfect gift is here, and it comes in the form of a personalized cartoon. Get an awesome sporty drawings made up for you or your friends. Nanico is an incredible Fiverr talent, and delivers exceptional Gigs. That’s all folks!

4) Can you feel the love tonight! (India)

Ladies and Gentlemen, the love doctor is in. Want to tell your crush how you really feel? This is one way to do it. Arjunrocks will set the mood and tell your loved one exactly how you feel about them.

5) Don’t have a cow (Indonesia)

We wanted to describe this Gig, we really did! We wanted to tell you all about it, but we think that the Gig speaks for itself. Sugank really got creative with this one. Check it out, it’s a-moo-zing!

There you have it, only 2 regions left! They will be coming your way as we count down to the Closing Ceremony. In the meantime check out the incredible Olympic-inspired Gigs filling the pages of Fiverr.

It’s Time For Africa

Hello again. The last time we spoke things were just about to get started at the 2012 Olympics. We were eagerly anticipating the opening ceremony and had our Fiverr-personalized Olympic gear out and ready for action.

Olympic Collection

Well, now we’re in the full swing of things. The opening ceremony was a huge success. The Queen jumped out of a helicopter with James Bond, J.K. Rowling read us a story and Paul McCartney closed the ceremony with a Beatles’ classic.

Theatrics aside, some sportsmen and women are already serving up some major cases of whoop ass. We’ve already fallen in love with gymnast John Orozco. At age 7 he went to his first gym class in the Bronx and twelve years later he’s wowing us all, performing more spins than a ballerina on speed.

Speaking of speed, did you watch the french swimming team overtake the USA team at the very last moment? It had us all at the edge of our seats. (I’m not a great swimmer, but that’s because it has never been more than half an hour since my last meal).

All that aside, it’s time to focus on our next Olympic ring and therefore another region of the world.

Timon and Pumbaa were right on target when they sang those famous words… Hakuna Matata! You guessed it, our next region is none other than Africa! With that comes 5 Fiverr-tastic Gigs to customise your Olympic experience and make your lives that much more enjoyable.

Ready? Here we go…

1) Chug, chug, chug! (South Africa)

Beer drinking isn’t an official Olympic sport… but we think it should be! OK, that may not happen anytime soon, but Justamobile will still help you impress your friends with the secret to chugging a 500ml beer in just 2-5 seconds.

2) What’s cooking, good looking? (South Africa)

So, you want to have a bunch of buddies over to watch the Olympics and enjoy a great meal. Only problem, you hate looking for recipes and feel overwhelmed. Brandnewcycle to the rescue. Not only will she plan a 3 course meal for you, she’ll also provide you with the recipes and a preparation plan. Delicious!

3) Run run, as fast as you can (Kenya)

The long distance runners to watch during the Olympics are from Kenya, a country with a rich tradition of producing incredible track athletes. Kenya won 14 medals four years ago in the Beijing Olympics. Their secret? We don’t know for sure but maybe they’re reading Rosepearl’s guide to marathon secrets.

4) Kenya all the way!(Kenya)

If you’re trying to spread a message in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, you may not be as successful as their running team. Don’t worry, Deshinali has this area covered. She will post 100 of your posters around the city. Talk about spreading the message!

5) Starry Starry Night (Algeria)

While the only gold medal we gonna see this Olympic season is through a television set, that still won’t prevent us from becoming stars! From sports to the streets of LA, Bassemjaber will get your name written on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (kinda). This makes an awesome gift!

South Africa, Kenya and everywhere in between - we’ve got you covered this Olympic season. Keep you checking on the blog, as we soon focus on another region participating in the Olympic Games 2012. With that comes more personalized gigs from those regions. Get the Gigs and show off! The difference between you and your friends? You make this look good!

What has been the highlight of the 2012 Games for you so far?

5 ways to enjoy the Olympic Games

Olympic season is here again.

I’m sure you’ve got out your old short-shorts and sweatband, done your stretches and prepared yourself for the weeks to come. Not that sitting in front of the TV all day will help break a sweat, mind you those bathroom breaks are way too short… so much to do, so little time.

Whether you’ll be watching from your couch, favorite bar or sitting in the stadiums, it’s going to be an action-packed event. Twenty Six sports in seventeen days, incredible opening and closing ceremonies, emotional prize presentations and of course, lots and lots of beautiful bodies… what’s not to like?

Before we go on, we have to take a quick look in the history books.

(cue dramatic music)

In 1912, Baron Pierre de Coubertin (otherwise known as the father of the modern Olympic Movement) designed the flag for the Games. It still remains the same today, those five interlocking rings, coloured blue, yellow, black, green, and red on a white field.

Each ring represents a different region of the world, the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania. Now isn’t that a handy bit of information.

In case you haven’t realized, we love the Olympic Games and so we had to give it a Fiverr twist. We’ve decided to shine the spotlight on different Gigs from each of these regions. Some will help personalize your Olympic viewing experience, some will help improve your athletic skills and some will just make you smile.

So, enough with the chit-chat, let’s get straight to business. Here are 5 Gigs to customize your Olympic experience, starting with with The Americas:

1) That’s one flippin’ cool Gig (USA)

There are a few ways to deliver a message: in person, by phone, or even strapped to a pigeon’s leg. However, few compare to the ever-so-flexible Matthewdowney20. Why not surprise your friends with a message delivered by Matthewdowney20 as he performs flips and stunts?!

2) PIN-terest, the old fashioned way (USA)

Galaxygirl will help fast forward your journey to Olympic fan-dom with collectible pins. As she explains, they are an exciting way to show Olympic spirit and an excellent conversation starter. Wear ‘em, trade ‘em, collect ‘em!

3) He aint no mermaid (Argentina)

Swimming is one of our favourite Olympic events. When you’ve had enough of looking at Speedos, you can focus your eyes elsewhere. Rubikart will help you transform an average Olympic viewing party into an aquatic delight.

4) Mmmmm… beer (Uruguay)

Remember that time Homer Simpson coached the hockey team? Or the time he almost became a boxing champion? Well, that’s our way of saying this Gig is in no way connected to sports. Eliana93fer will do a great job transforming you into those Simpsons characters that we all know and love.

5) Say it in a song (Canada)

Need a cheerleader? If the hot blonde in the short skirt and pompoms is not available, Abcdawg is the right guy for the job. (Ladies, here’s a little tip, for his Gig Extra™ he’ll sing with his shirt off *wink*).

Well there you have it. Five Fiverr-tastic Gigs from North and South America. Remember to keep visiting the Fiverr Blog to see more Gigs from other regions.

So excited for the games and can’t wait for the beach volleyball tournaments! What are you excited for?
