 What tip will you offer?

ttzachii (a.k.a. Tzachi) will create a mobile app for you on Fiverr. He started out as a buyer about a year ago and decided to try his luck selling mobile programming services. With very little expectations he set up a Gig and waited to see what would happen.

Today, Fiverr is his main source of income, but what’s really impressive is that he makes an average of $30-$50 per order.

Now, I know you’re thinking…. Whaaat?! It sounds impossible right? How is he able to make so much on Fiverr where everything starts at $5? Well, he’s about to share that info with all of you.

So without further delay, give it up for Ttzachii!

Growing my $5 service

I offer a full service, this means buyers can come and get a complete project made by me. When I first started on Fiverr, each $5 Gig was a different service that complemented the other, so that together, they made up a full project. Then I was promoting these other services both before and after the order was made. This helped me to earn more money and build my profile with feedback.

Once I got Levels, I simply used all the Extras I could, it didn’t take long to update the prices since I was ready and waiting for it.

The idea is to provide the entire service in pieces and promote it as much as possible when talking to buyers. Make sure they know that there’s no need to pay higher fees somewhere else to complete their project. It’s better for them since they only need to explain what they need once and it’s taken care of.

The best part is, this strategy works no matter what services you offer. The key is to think big and then make it work by breaking down each service into something you can do for $5. You’ll see that orders can really start to add up when you do this.

Making my buyer’s life easier

The service I offer is very complex. My buyer needs to choose content and functions for their app. To make it easy for my buyer (and myself), I built an online form for my Fiverr orders. This is a fast way for me and the buyer to understand what they need and expect.

When the form is filled the information is sent to me. The buyer can also save it and review it to see if there’s anything that they want to change. This set up helps to save a lot of time.

My best tips

First, you need to have a great service with excellent communication. Your buyer should be so amazed with what they get from your Gig that they see the value in adding Extras. When you deliver the Extras, they should be even more amazed. This way they might come back and even spread the word about you to others.

Use the Extras! I see sellers that simply don’t offer them and this is a big mistake. If you aren’t sure about what service to provide as Extras, start thinking about your Gigs as a “one stop shop”. There must be services that someone buying your Gig will need. Add those to provide the complete package.

If your initial Gig already offers a full package, then maybe you are giving away too much for too little. Think of a way to break down this service into steps.

Finally, always promote your Extras. Let buyers know about your Extras when you are chatting with them before they place the order and after they place the order. Your buyer can add Extras after the order was placed and even after it’s delivered. I know it sounds pushy, but trust me, it works ;)

The Start of My Fiverr Addiction

A friend (Sam Cornwell) emailed me to say he’d found this site and knew I’d find it interesting. I set up an account and didn’t really expect anything to come of it.

I was shocked to get my first order around a week later and that was the start of my Fiverr addiction. I added a few more Gigs and gradually built up my sales and reputation.

Fiverr as a Full Time Gig

I maintained my day job and did my Fiverr work in the early mornings, at night or weekends. A lot of my Gigs rely on photography. Seeing that I prefer natural light, my time was limited.

My greatest fear was getting a negative review, and whilst I would never even come close to the deadlines, I am a perfectionist so I would never deliver something I wasn’t 100% satisfied with.

After around a year on Fiverr I had the opportunity to cut my hours at work so I decided to work part time. On my days ‘off’ I was able to work on my Fiverr orders. Somehow, because I had more time to devote to the Fiverr side of things, I’d get more orders, complete them quicker and felt in a better position to actively promote what I do (I have a Facebook page devoted entirely to my Fiverr work).

The decision to leave my job completely last September wasn’t hard for me. My job was pretty tedious and certainly not creative – I worked in a call centre. The chance came up and I took it. Mine isn’t the sole income in the house, my two daughters are grown up so the financial pressures aren’t there.

Now, my life is no longer stressful and I can organise my days as I wish.

Feedback is My Main Motivation

I find it hard to see myself as successful. It’s one reason I love getting feedback – when someone appreciates what I did and tells me I’m wonderful or awesome, it makes me smile.

Getting an order that auto-completes sometimes feels like a kick in the teeth, especially if I feel I did a great job. It’s like holding the door open for someone who then walks through without saying thanks. I know lots of people don’t see it that way, and lots of buyers probably don’t give it a thought.

Gig Creativity

I’ve always been creative but never really stuck at any one idea. Being on Fiverr has focused my mind. My Gig ideas tend to come to me in the middle of the night or I will see something online or in real life that sparks an idea. I love thinking up new Gigs. My biggest challenge now is to keep the Gigs fresh!

To anyone starting out or setting up new Gigs, first of all do something you enjoy. Don’t try doing something you’re uncomfortable with since you will struggle and start to resent it.

My Tips to New Sellers

Getting that first sale is always the most difficult part and even though I’ve been on the site for over 2 years I try not to forget that each sale is important and it often takes a buyer who is trusting to take that leap of faith and be the first.

You can help yourself by having clear titles, descriptions and instructions, good Gig photos and realistic lead times. Communicate with your buyers throughout the sale where necessary. Don’t assume they know the procedure or how things work.

Put yourself in the shoes of the buyer and ask yourself how you’d feel to receive the work you did.

Due to our rapid growth, there has been an increase in the number of support tickets and therefore, the Customer Support team has noticed an increase in response time. In order to keep things timely and streamlined, we want to remind you about a few tricks that might help get the answers you need as quickly as possible.

1) The Answers are at Your Fingertips

If you are looking to get your questions answered in a jiffy, look no further than the Knowledge Base. Here we have a wide variety of questions already answered for quick reference. If you still can’t find the answer you need, no problem. Feel free to open a support ticket.

When submitting a support ticket it is very important to select the most appropriate category on the feedback form. This way our Customer Support team can review your request and get back to you as fast as possible without having your ticket bounce around from category to category! (We may like pinball, but we want your tickets to take the most direct route.)

3) One Ticket

Please remember, one ticket will suffice. We promise to get back in touch once you submit a ticket. Your experience with the Fiverr website is very important to us at HQ and we are working hard to respond as quickly as possible. If you suspect your ticket did not make it, check its status by logging in here and clicking “Check your existing requests”.

You can also add any new issues to an existing ticket by clicking the same link and continuing to the current ticket conversation. There you can track your issues as well as our responses. All of your concerns wrapped up in one tidy support request.

 4) Mutual Cancellations

Guess what else… mutual cancellations can be done without Customer Support. You can do it yourself and it still won’t affect your ratings. Find out how to do it here.

An actor, Mike lived in Los Angeles for 7 years. He appeared in dozens of commercials including Pizza Hut, Coors and Sprint among others. He also had small roles in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (opposite Brad Pitt), “Collateral” (opposite Tom Cruise), “The Shaggy Dog” (opposite Tim Allen).
 
In Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator” Mike played Cary Grant. But he told us that his favorite role was on “Oceans 12″, where he played the Faberge Egg expert. He’s the one who sets up the Egg display the day before Clooney and the gang steal it.
How cool is that?!
 
In 2009, Mike and his wife decided they didn’t want to raise their kids in L.A. so they left California and moved to Colorado.

My Fiverr income

Fiverr accounts for about 60% of my income. While this figure varies from time to time, I get paid pretty much every day from Fiverr. Some days I might get $200 and other days $20, it all depends on what jobs I completed two weeks earlier.
 
It’s a great feeling when I’m at the supermarket with a cart full of groceries and I look at my Fiverr seller account and “Boom!” there’s $120 bucks! Two clicks later, that money is in my PayPal account and I can use those earnings to buy my groceries.

Maintaining a steady income

Be sure to have a variety of Gigs available for sale. I have 16 Gigs on my Fiverr profile. Generally accounts can have up to 20 (30 for Top Rated Sellers). The more you have, the better your chances of getting sales.
 
I suggest trying to put your various Gigs in different, relevant categories so that you cover all your bases.

What I do when orders start to drop

I look at my Gigs to see which ones are not getting any sales. I then consider deleting them and creating something different with a fresh twist. After all, if you’ve had a Gig up for 2 or 3 months and haven’t gotten any sales or inquiries, you have nothing to lose by getting rid of it and starting over.
 
If that fails, I sometimes will email Fiverr support and ask to have one of my Gigs “bumped up” the list. When I do this, they usually send my Gig to the Fiverr Editors who sometimes grant my request (sometimes they don’t). The key is not to bother them with weekly emails, I’ll only use this tactic when my sales are really down.

Converting unhappy customers

My biggest challenge is converting unhappy customers into happy customers. Although it doesn’t happen often, sometimes a client will not like the outcome of their video. When this happens, that client immediately moves up to the top of my priority list.
 
I ask them what changes they want made and try my best to get them the video they envisioned when they ordered my Gig. In the long run, it’s better to make that extra effort to keep your customers happy, that way they’re more likely return or recommend you to colleagues and friends. This can bring in more sales over time vs. making a few quick bucks right now.
 
If they get that second video and still aren’t happy, I always offer to mutually cancel the Gig and give them a refund. For me personally, I’d rather give them back their money over getting a bad review. Reviews are crucial to Fiverr success, if you want to be a top rated seller – you need to have an excellent satisfaction rate!

For the newbies

Take some time to browse the website and see what is selling. If you notice that one type of Gig consistently has over 10 or 20 orders in queue, then it is obvious that there’s a demand for this Gig. I’m not telling you to copy anyone’s idea, simply use them for inspiration and put your own unique spin on them.
