Linnea Sage, known as linneas88 on Fiverr®, is a hardworking actor in New York City. She has many wonderful theater, film, television and commercial credits, but she now considers Fiverr her day job. Linnea’s been selling Gigs® on Fiverr for over 2 years and recently hit a milestone, selling 10,000 voiceovers with a 100 percent positive rating! Here she is to share her Fiverr story with us.
I got into voiceovers a couple of years ago, and it was really one of those “the universe is looking out for me” mysteries. I was weirdly hired to do a zombie radio show in Boston when I didn’t really know much about radio. They taught me all about microphones, studio equipment and voice tracks, so it was like a free class in how to produce voiceovers. Then, through an ex-boyfriend, I talked my way into doing a voiceover project for a start-up company doing their instructional videos, which ended up in retail outlets and was a great resume builder. Finally, about two years ago, I was telling this story to several strangers while I was in a carpool on my way to a wedding, this guy told me I should sell voiceovers on Fiverr. I took a look at Fiverr and became a really early adopter. When I got my first order, I thought it was the best day of my life! It started with one voiceover every other day, then two a day, and it just kept growing. Now it accounts for about 75 percent of my income.
My Gigs come from all over the world, that’s what makes it so exciting. While most Gigs come from the U.S., I get a lot from India and the Middle East. For the most part, they are explainer videos that show up on YouTube, explaining a new business concept or how to use an online application. I also do a lot of radio ads for restaurants and places like that, and a ton of voicemail messages. I’ve also done a handful of national and international commercials. I even have a Febreze® ad and a Mr. Clean® ad running on television in Guyana. I’ve done a lot of new iPhone apps, such as narrating children books and games, and I’m the voice for Couch to 5K, the running program, which has been downloaded millions of times. All of this is thanks to Fiverr. But it isn’t just about the Gigs I sell. I also buy on Fiverr. When I was building my website, I hired a logo designer and an HTML designer. I also use Fiverr sellers to Photoshop my headshots. So I was able to afford to create this great website because of Fiverr.
In the theater, you’re always going to auditions and casting calls. Getting your foot in the door is extremely difficult, and you rarely get encouragement. You might go on 100 auditions before you get hired. But on Fiverr, it’s been so amazing to be able to build my business without having to fight. Waking up every day and checking my To Do list and seeing positive ratings from people, it’s really an incredible morale booster. And I get the same high off of it today as when I first started. Now I hope that Fiverr is just becoming part of society, like Google and Amazon, so I can keep doing this forever, at least until I win an Oscar. Or maybe I’ll keep doing it after that because I really love helping small businesses and start-ups by offering a very professional service at a reasonable price.
First, try to be as original as possible, so you can establish yourself as the best seller out of a smaller group. Also, customer service is really important. It’s always possible to help somebody get a better product or improve their experience. Always stay in touch with them. If you can answer their questions and help them out, they are much more likely to come back to you.
Congratulations Linnea! Thank you for sharing your success with us.
