Subcategories are coming!

Listen good ’cause you’re gonna love this:

In the coming days we will be introducing two new awesome features: subcategories and category search. This means that the existing categories will have a much better structure. For buyers – you will find the services you are interested in a lot quicker and easier. For sellers – you will be able to list your gigs in a much more relevant classification instead of just broad categories.

The new search will support the ability to search the entire site, a specific category or a subcategory. This will improve the user experience significantly.

So, if you are a seller, here’s how it works:
Go to your ‘My Gigs’ page and edit each of your gigs to assign them in the right subcategory. For example; put your logo design gig in the subcategory ‘Logo Design’ under the category ‘Graphics’.
We recommend that you do this as soon as possible because we will be opening the subcategories feature in a matter of days.

“Yeah, but what if I don’t…?” you ask. Well, your gigs will still be there, but they will only appear if someone clicked on the parent category. Your gigs will also have a much lower rank in search results and will not appear when buyers search in subcategories. In other words, not assigning your gigs to the right subcategory will hurt your chances of being found by potential buyers.
So what are you waiting for? Get ready to see your gigs thrive.

Happy gigging

We’ve Got Some AMAZING News!

Hey everyone, we have some big and exciting news to share with you today.

Fiverr has just secured $15 million in a second round of funding from a group of amazing venture capitalists, Accel Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners. Following previous financing led by Bessemer Venture Partners and angels Guy Gamzu and Jonathan Kolber, we’ve now raised a total of $20 million.

Both Accel and Bessemer have a track record of investing in disruptive consumer Internet companies such as Etsy, Kayak, Wonga, Dropbox, Spotify, Skype, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Yelp.

We’re so proud to share our continued growth with the whole Fiverr community. Since the beginning of 2011, we’ve grown 600% in transactions, now work with sellers across more than 200 countries, and list over 750,000 awesome and unique gigs on the site. Together, we are truly changing the way the world works – and it’s just the beginning!

Today’s funding will support our continued company and product growth, so that we can quickly develop and provide you with more features, tools and services to help you grow your business on Fiverr.

Here’s what our investors had to say about us:

“Fiverr introduces a level of liquidity, velocity and engagement to the services economy not seen before.  This is why its marketplace has grown so rapidly,” said Adam Valkin, partner at Accel Partners. “Micha and Shai have an incredible vision, which is to be the place for people anywhere to monetize their talents and passions on a global stage. We are very excited to be part of it.”

“Fiverr’s users are the key to the site’s success. Far more than a set of tools, Fiverr creates an entrepreneurial community focused on helping sellers build their Gigs into significant revenue and customer interaction,” said Adam Fisher, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. “Together Fiverr and its users are changing the nature of work, building a global groundswell of support for income independence and creative freedom.”

We are very excited to share the news with you (you can read the whole story here) and we look forward to building this amazing marketplace with you.

Unboxing MOO’s New Luxe Business Cards

If you ever bought a new Apple product, you probably went through the magnificent unboxing experience Apple has crafted. Apple has mastered it – they are as meticulous about the package of the product as they are about the product itself.

It doesn’t matter if you end up throwing the package away, the impression that the unboxing experience leaves you with will be forever tied with how you think about the product. There is an unconscious influence that a great package has on the coolness factor of the product itself

Not long ago, I experienced the opposite when I purchased a pair of headphones from a very well known brand. The model I chose was from their high-end series and it had great reviews. This manufacturer is a very reputable headphones maker, and yet the packaging of the product I purchased didn’t say all that. Instead, it gave an overall sense of an OK product, maybe even a little cheap. For me, that was a complete turnoff. It took me some time before I gave the actual headphones a proper chance after struggling to forget the poor unboxing experience.

At Fiverr we always think about that when we have product sessions. We know that if we treat our products with respect and pay endless attention to details, there is a good chance that our customers will treat it with the same respect.

MOO is exactly this type of company – it thinks of every detail, from the order process through shipping to unboxing as a whole. Ordering from MOO is a treat.

Recently, I decided to print up new business cards, largely because MOO sent me an email introducing their new super thick “Luxe” cards. Once the cards arrived I couldn’t resist filming the unboxing experience and sharing it with you. Credit for the design of the cards goes to Tofupanda from Fiverr.

Here goes:

How awesome is that!?
