Fun at Work with Fiverr

Here at Fiverr we are always delighted when more and more professional businesses discover not only the value and creativity our sellers provide, but just as importantly the sheer fun you can have with their services. In what may become a future trend setter, Digital Agency Brit-Net* turned to Fiverr to add a little spice to their office Secret Santa celebrations.

The results were fantastic, and as Mat Bennett (Digital Strategist and the Director of Brit-Net) was all too eager to point out, the company is now looking for any excuse to involve Fiverr in all their future celebrations!

So… Tell us about your Fiverr-themed Secret Santa

A few of the team here run a Secret Santa for a bit of fun at work in the week before Christmas. This year it had a different slant: All presents had to be bought on Fiverr. We stuck them all in a folder with the person’s name on it and we’d gather around and have a laugh!

Without a shadow of a doubt it was the best Secret Santa so far… It not only makes things insanely affordable, but instantly encourages people to do something different. Also, the “opening” is hilarious compared with un-wrapping the usual collection of chocolates and novelty toys.

How did you hear about Fiverr, and why did you decide to do it through Fiverr?

I heard about Fiverr just over two years ago and I’m a bit of an addict- I find it so entertaining!

This year, when we discussed our traditional Secret Santa, someone piped up “I’m just going to get mine off Fiverr anyway” and the seed of the idea was sewn. After that we made it the rule that all gifts had to come from Fiverr.

What kind of Gigs did people enjoy the most?

Everybody got downloadable stuff which made it nice and easy. And not a pair of socks or emergency box of chocolates in site! We had social profile pictures, mini works of art, personalized computer games and hilarious videos. The one that got the biggest laugh was this Christmas video testimonial:

Office Fun

Tim, who received this video, said: “These are my kind of people. The bits I understood were hilarious. I wish I could find a way to monetize my drinking problem."

Other great Gigs we got include:

Fun at Work

Callis, a retro gaming fan, got his likeness in 8-bit form as an avatar. Of course the most embarrassing picture we could find was used: "Being a retro gamer who spends a lot of free time looking at 8-bit graphics, a pixelated photo of me was a great gift" @callis1987.

Mac-phobic Mat got his own piece of original artwork celebrating his secret love of all things Apple: “I just can’t believe how much work the seller put in to this, it’s genius. The portrait is rather flattering too - I might have to get him to draw a new avatar for me” @matbennett

The less said about this the better, but someone thought Maria would enjoy a stripper video for Christmas.

Fiverr Gigs are personalized; did that help people identify their Secret Santa?

The fact that you can put your personalized message in there definitely made it more interesting, and allowed us to incorporate funny office jokes.

One Santa identity was given away and we’ve all tried to figure them out since, but really it blew the secret only in one instance.

Do you think you’ll be doing it again before next year?

We’re not only planning to do it again next year, but the team here is trying to find an excuse to do something similar without having to wait until next Christmas. It could be a great idea for employees’ birthdays and office fun.

Do you use Fiverr for professional services related to your business?

Fiverr has always been a useful resource for us, as well as a lot of fun. There is some great creative talent on the pages of Fiverr and it’s amazing how often you can get some little job done for $5, be it a cartoon to liven up a presentation or a few seconds of video to help demo a point in a blog post.

Thank you Mat for sharing your great story with us!

Guys, Valentine’s Day is coming soon- if you’re thinking about using this idea to bring Valentine’s Day to the office, or if you have other great Fiverr stories, be sure to tell us all about them on our forum!
